Winter 2021: The Fire

Campfire

When I think about fire, I have memories of being around a campfire. Closing my eyes, I hear crackling as the wood shifts about, or perhaps laughter and deep conversation as stories are shared. Maybe I scoot up a bit closer to get warm or to get my marshmallow in the right spot of the flames. Walking in the dark, you can see the light ahead and make your way back to the warmth and your community.

At the end of a magical evening around a campfire, someone makes sure the flames are out and no embers will ignite during the night.

What is it like to be a fire this year? Has it felt like the pandemic and current events are suffocating your warmth and light? At times, it may have felt like we are being doused with water or stomped or spread out, over and over. This past year may go down as the one when we all collectively screamed, “I cannot take this anymore!”

If you are not feeling bright but crushed and stomped down, take heart. The Ember is there, glowing and ready to burst back to a roaring flame. It has not been put out. Trust. Walk. He who has begun a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.
